Portland Sheep Wool
Our yarn is woollen spun and is c. 110m per 50g. Swatches should be knitted 20 stitches over 28 rows to 4″ square and the best size needle is 4mm (UK8 US6). The fleeces are hand sorted, then washed and dried. For your splash and dash ranges a percentage of Black Welsh Mountain is then added to the Portland to change the white fibre to a pale silver or grey. The fibre is then blended and carded for an even colour before being woollen spun.
Once it is spun it is plied, hanked and washed for a second time. After this is wound into 50g balls and packed ready for dispatch.

Armscote Manor flock is in accordance with best practice, the flock is mainly grass fed with supplementation for the in lamb ewes. The hay we feed is cut from our own fields.
The sheep are handled quietly and we have quite a few that are friendly and will come up for a fuss and maybe a handful of feed! We use shearer that specialises in small flocks and takes care with the sheep so shearing is as stress free as possible.
The breeding ewes are blood tested by the vet annually and worm egg counts done to keep them in optimum condition.
We started showing in 2016 at Moreton show and had success first time out with one of our older ewes, this year we got a first place with our accidently January born ewe lamb! Other members of the show team have also performed well being placed in a mixed breed classes.
